Zo nu en dan krijg ik van chauffeurs foto’s van hun truck toegestuurd. Altijd leuk! Maar dit keer extra leuk, de chauffeur is werkzaam bij de Noord-Ierse politie. Tot een paar jaar terug was daar nog een bloedige strijd tussen de protestanten en katholieken, dus de Ieren (ook de noordelijke, wat dan officieel dus weer Britten zijn?) weten wat je nodig hebt om rellen tegen te gaan. In dit geval een Ginaf X3331 chassis uit 2004, met Somati waterkanon. In Nederland krijg je eens een koelkast vanuit een kraakpand op je dak, of wordt er een theelichthouder gegooid. Aan de andere kant van de waterplas gaat het er nog steeds wat heftiger aan toe: “In 9years I ve been shot at, paint bombed, petrol bombed, blast bombed, bricked and bottled but the GINAF protected me.”

Every now and then drivers send me pictures of their trucks. That’s always nice! But this time it’s extra nice, because the driver is employed by the Northern Ireland police. Until a few years ago, there was a bloody conflict between Protestants and Catholics, so the Irish (also the northern, which are oficially british again?) know what you need to prevent riots.
