Spare a thought for the emergency services this Christmas

Road safety and breakdown organisation GEM Motoring Assist wishes all drivers a very happy and safe Christmas holiday, and takes the opportunity to thank those who will be at work over the festive season to help keep us all safe.

GEM road safety officer Neil Worth commented: “As the holiday season arrives, we think about winding down work – even just for a few short days – and spending time with family and friends.

“But for some, such as police officers, paramedics, firefighters, doctors and nurses, life doesn’t stop at Christmas and it’s very much business as usual. So as we prepare for some welcome holiday time, let’s spare a thought for them, the spirit of public service they display and the vital work they do, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

For GEM’s extensive breakdown recovery network it will also be business as usual, although GEM is keen to encourage drivers to take simple steps to minimise the risk of a vehicle malfunction. Key steps for a safe holiday journey are to ensure your car’s battery is in good shape, with oil and antifreeze levels correct, lights assessed and working, and tyres correctly inflated – with plenty of tread.
